Step-by-Step Guide: Putting Your iPhone or Android into Recovery Mode

Instructions for Putting an iPhone in Recovery Mode

Warning: Before proceeding, it is important to note that restoring your iPhone may erase all of your data on your device. Therefore, it is recommended to back up your device before beginning the restore process.

Step 1: Ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. If iTunes is already open, close it.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone to your computer and then open iTunes.

Step 3: Press and hold the Top button (for iPad models with Face ID), Side button (for iPhone 8 or later), or Side/Top button (for iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch 7th generation) until the power-off slider appears. Drag the slider to turn off your device.

Step 4: Connect your iPhone to your computer while holding the Top button (for iPad models with Face ID), Side button (for iPhone 8 or later), or Volume Down button (for iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and iPod touch 7th generation) and keep holding it until you see the recovery-mode screen.

Step 5: When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits the connect to iTunes screen, let the download finish, then repeat step 3.

Step 6: After the Update or Restore completes, you can set up your device.

Step 2: Press the Volume Up button.

Step 3: Press the Home button without releasing the Volume Up button.

Step 4: Press the Power button without releasing the Volume Up and Home button.

Step 5: Hold these three buttons for about 3-6 seconds. Your device may display "Recovery Booting" on the top left or will appear to boot up.

Step 6: Your device will show "installing updates" or a message saying "No command" or an android with an exclamation mark (this is normal). If this happens, wait about 3-60 seconds and the device will enter into Recovery Mode automatically.

Step 7: Once in recovery mode, use the Volume buttons and Power button to make selections. Volume Up = Scroll Up, Volume Down = Scroll Down, Power button = Enter.

Step 8: To restore the device, scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button when "Wipe data/factory reset" is highlighted.

Step 9: Your device will ask to confirm the selection. Enter "Yes" and the restoring process will begin. Step 10: Once completed, your device will automatically boot on its own.

Note: The process for putting an android device in recovery mode may vary slightly depending on the specific device you have. The above instructions should work for the majority of android devices, but if they do not, you can try searching online for instructions specific to your device make and model. Additionally, it is important to note that restoring your android device may also erase all of your data, so it is recommended to back up your device before proceeding with the restore process.
